C.Y. O’Connor Erosion Prevention

Subcon > News > C.Y. O’Connor Erosion Prevention

Background

C.Y. O’Connor Beach is located in the City of Cockburn, Western Australia, and has been suffering from severe erosion with the beach losing 50m in the past 20 years.

The ongoing costs of replenishment works consisting of walkway path relocation and period sand replacement were at a cost of in excess of $300,000 per year to the City of Cockburn.

Subcon Solution

Subcon was contracted to complete the detailed design and supply of 135 Wave Attenuating Concrete Modules that were to be lifted into place 100m off shore.

The modules assist in decreasing erosion by reducing the amount of energy carried by ocean waves and subsequently allows for shoreline sand to fall out of suspension and remain on the inner side of the modules.
