Project Overview
In February 2012, the JKC Joint Venture (JGC Corporation, KBR and Chiyoda Corporation) awarded BAM Clough the contract to design and construct the Module Offloading Facility (MOF) near Darwin, Northern Territory. The MOF comprises a 160-metre x 65-metre heavy-lift berth constructed using cellular cofferdams, transition pontoon berth, module carrier Ro-Ro berths and mooring dolphins. MMA was contracted by BAM Clough to supply the high-performance scour protection system for the berth pockets.
MMA's Solution
We supplied our proprietary CoastMat product, providing high performance scour protection against high-velocity propellor and thruster wash for all vessel berth pockets. We installed 2000m2 total coverage. MMA provided fabric formworks tailored to the shape of the caissons and sheet piled walls to protect flow amplification at the transition between the berth and the CoastMat armour.
Outcome
The combination of mattress and grouted fabric formworks allowed an efficient, tailored solution to suit the circular cofferdam profiles and fender pile arrangements.

MMA provided the diver-operated lifting tools which enabled installation of the scour protection system.
